This workshop is designed to replicate, as nearly as possible, a graduate / post-graduate school fine art growth and study experience.

At the outset, artists present an individual study “mission statement” (contract) proposing a focus of study for the workshop. Mission statements serves as “genesis points” (places to start). They are not etched in stone. Rather, participants are invited to follow whatever avenues that may present themselves as the study unfolds. The workshop’s final session has each artist re-state what their original mission statement was and proceed to describe what ensued, how, and why, and share most important takeaways.

Studio sessions consist of artists working independently in their own spaces. Aimone makes studio visits offering intensive, highly individualized and interactive discussion.

Once or twice daily, Aimone calls on the artists to take part in a “gallery walk.” Participants are asked to walk through the studio and spend at least 15 seconds in stillness and silence with each of the other artists’ works,  being with and experiencing them directly. The group then shares responses, observations, and experience.

Recommended pre-requisites:

  1. Maintenance of an active studio practice.
  2. A passionate interest in developing greater fluency in the expressive visual language.
  3. A willingness and ability to work in active cooperation and support of others in the workshop group.

The workshop is a shared exploratory experience. Each participant’s artistic integrity is a given. The studio time stands as a safe and supportive space in which to explore freely, take chances, embrace uncertainty and discover creative responses.
