Inspiration

Art demands technique, but it can fall short if it lacks soul and vision. The most potent art is genuinely personal to the artist, embodying it with underlying energy. Making personal work requires tapping in and connecting with ourselves. If we’re not making art that feels like us we can end up bored, distracted, looking outward, absent, and feeling like this art thing was a bad choice.

Do you want that thing in your art that feels just out of reach, but aren’t quite sure what it is?

Do you make art that doesn’t feel completely like you and desire something more authentic?

Do you seek a deeper connection to your art and your process?

What to Expect

- Work in journals and on heavy paper

- Gain clarity and better understand our unique point of view

- Explore how to best articulate ourselves

- Uncover and develop our visual language

- Identify and articulate the feelings, ideas or subject we want to convey

- Learn how to potently bring out what it is we desire in our work

Requirements

Two weeks prior to the workshop, email 5-10 images of your work that you are particularly drawn to. Don’t worry about it being a cohesive body of work. It can be a sampling of work in various mediums. You are also welcome to send a few images of other artists’ work that you really resonate with.

Materials

Bring any supplies you normally work with, such as acrylic paint and any mediums you prefer, palette setup, mark-making tools, pencils, crayons, collage elements.

Required 

- Arches oil paper pad 12x16 (2 pads)

- Sketchbook or journal. This will mostly be used for writing. If you already have one, bring that. If you don’t have one, here is a suggestion. It comes in various sizes.
