If you're curious about abstract painting but aren’t sure where to begin—or you’re feeling stuck and want to loosen up your process—Abstract Evolution: Volume One is designed to help you break through those blocks and build real momentum in your creative practice.
Are you ready to:
Discover new ways to compose dynamic abstract work?
Loosen up your style and break free from rigid techniques?
Add depth, texture, and clarity to your creative process?
You’re not alone. Just like we evolve through life, our art evolves too—sometimes in bold leaps, sometimes through quiet discovery. But every step matters.
Led by Jodi Ohl, professional artist, author of “Abstracts in Acrylic and Ink”, and instructor to thousands of students around the world, this class will guide you from building rich backgrounds to developing expressive, intentional compositions. You’ll walk away with practical tools, renewed inspiration, and more confidence in your artistic voice.
What You’ll Learn
Over this multi-day workshop, you'll work on both paper and canvas, using primarily acrylic paint alongside a variety of materials like charcoal, mark-making tools, and mediums to expand texture and visual interest.
By working on larger surfaces and multiple pieces at once, you’ll get comfortable experimenting, taking creative risks, and discovering unexpected possibilities in your work.
You’ll also:
Create warm-up projects to help break through creative blocks
Practice guided techniques through demos, discussions, and critique
Explore painting with energy, intuition, and intention
Topics include:
Sketching with paint
Letting go of expectations
Creating drama in your composition
Color mixing and palette expansion
Working in series or on multiple pieces
Using mediums to transform texture and flow
Expect to create several warm-up pieces plus 3–4 larger abstract paintings throughout the week.
Who This Class Is For:
While all levels are welcome, this course is best suited for beginner to intermediate artists with a basic understanding of acrylic paint. Whether you're just starting or looking to push your practice further, this class offers structure, support, and space to grow.
Space is Limited
Due to the hands-on nature of this experience, spots are limited and expected to fill quickly. If you're ready to challenge yourself and grow as an abstract artist, don’t wait—save your seat now and be part of this inspiring journey.
