You’ve been told oil painting has rules… a lot of them.

Don’t mix this. Don’t layer that. Wait days. Maybe weeks. And heaven forbid you mess up halfway through 😅

What if none of that had to be true?

In this workshop, Julie invites you into a completely different way of working. One that trades rigidity for freedom, and replaces hesitation with momentum.

Using cold wax medium, you’ll thicken your paint, speed up drying time, and let go of outdated “fat over lean” worries entirely. No brushes. No harsh solvents. No hovering over your work wondering if you’re doing it “right.”

Instead, you’ll dive into rich, tactile layers using R&F Pigment Sticks and tube oils, working intuitively with tools that feel more like play than precision. Julie brings deep experience and a clear, grounded approach that makes even the most unfamiliar techniques feel accessible, exciting, and totally doable.

You’ll create a series of small, authentic works on Arches oil paper and Ampersand Gessobord, building multiple pieces at once so nothing feels precious or stuck. Everything stays in motion. Everything evolves.

Yes, it’s a little messy.

Yes, it will stretch you.

And yes… it will absolutely change the way you think about oil painting.

✨ If you’re ready to break the rules (and finally enjoy the process again), this is your moment.

"My work has grown more confident over the years. I have shed much of the hesitancy and doubt that accompanies early work. I am more trusting of myself to make the right decisions. My self criticism has become focused and useful as I continue to expand and experiment. The more I paint, the better I know what I like, what I want in my work, and the more comfortable I feel with my art practice. This trust and believing in positive outcomes has become my way forward. Not always easy but I enjoy the challenges and I am having more fun all the time." -Julie
