Using oil pastel crayons, encaustic wax and pigment sticks, you will create a series of encaustic monoprints on rice paper, using a hotplate. Additional mark making tools used include graphite pencils, India ink and alcohol ink. No art experience is needed for this fun workshop where we will explore the medium of wax, as we will draw with crayons on a hotplate and imprint the image onto rice paper. The printing plates range in size from 4x6 to 8x10 inches and you will have the opportunity to use different sizes for different effects. You will also learn how to either mat your work for framing or mount it on a rigid surface using adhesive.
All supplies, which average $30 per person will be provided and included in the cost of the workshop. You will receive 2 finished matted paintings and 1 painting mounted on a 2 inch cradled panel up to size 8x8. You will also have many pages of wax monoprints that you can use in collage, art journaling, notecard making; the uses are endless!
No art experience is needed, simply bring your open mind and imagination!
