Here's the thing about Steve Aimone's Advanced Directed Individual Study—it's not really a workshop.
It’s a self-driven, graduate-level studio experience where:
• You define your own mission (no assignments)
• You work independently, but not alone
• You receive direct, one-on-one critique
• You see your work in context through group dialogue
It’s about becoming the artist who knows what they’re doing—and why.
Steve Aimone is often called an “art whisperer” for his rare ability to help artists see what’s already alive in their work and trust it.
Through deeply intuitive, one-on-one dialogue, he guides painters beyond technique into clarity, confidence, and a more authentic visual language. Steve moves through the studio offering intensive, individualized critique.
This is a space where:
• Your artistic integrity is respected
• Exploration is expected
• Uncertainty is part of the process
At the outset, artists present an individual study “mission statement” (contract) proposing a focus of study for the workshop. Mission statements serve as “genesis points” (places to start). They are not etched in stone. Rather, participants are invited to follow whatever avenues that may present themselves as the study unfolds. The workshop’s final session has each artist re-state what their original mission statement was and proceed to describe what ensued, how, and why, and share most important takeaways.
NEW! Everyone is welcome, no portfolio review needed.
After you register, Steve will contact you personally to discuss your goals.

Think of this as a graduate-level studio experience—without the years-long commitment.
This is for you if:
• You maintain an active studio practice
• You want greater fluency in your visual language
• You’re open to exploration, dialogue, and honest growth
You’ll begin with a mission.
You’ll leave with something far more valuable:
A deeper understanding of how—and why—you work.
Spots are intentionally limited.
