BIOGRAPHY

 Julie Schumer was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.  She began painting at age 5 adopting an abstract expressionist style, continuing through high school. She ultimately became a criminal defense lawyer but returned to her art practice in her mid-forties.  She ran away from home and moved to Santa Fe, NM in 2002 where she has painted happily alongside her painter husband James Koskinas ever since. 

 

Over the years Julie has shown her work in various Santa Fe and other galleries and is in numerous private collections as well as the public collection maintained by the Tucson airport.  She was hired in 2014 to teach a loosening up workshop for the West Texas Watercolor Society based in Lubbock, Texas and discovered her love of helping other painters advance their skills.  She has been teaching expressive painting workshops ever since, both live and online.
